Based on climate data by IPCC, if the world does not successfully implement measures to reduce carbon emissions, land sinks will come to grief and become sources. Oceans will lose the ability to soak the emissions and eventually emerge as a net source

This results in an imbalanced carbon cycle where emissions are much higher than what earth can potentially absorb
